Pilates

STOTT PILATES® is a contemporary approach to the original exercise method pioneered by the late Joseph Pilates. Co‑founders Moira and Lindsay G. Merrithew, along with a team of physical therapists, sports medicine and fitness professionals, have spent more than two decades refining the STOTT PILATES® method of exercise and equipment. This resulted in the inclusion of modern principles of exercise science and spinal rehabilitation, making it one of the safest and most effective methods available. The exercises are designed to restore the natural curves of the spine and rebalance the muscles around the joints. Having developed more preparatory exercises and modifications to make the Pilates Method safer and more effective, STOTT PILATES® exercises safely deliver optimal strength, flexibility, and endurance.

Private Sessions: Private sessions are ideal for persons wishing to gain in-depth instruction in the Pilates Method, and especially for those with special considerations such as surgeries, spinal injuries, or other chronic issues. Having undivided attention from an instructor is invaluable when it comes to your progress in strengthening efficiently and building a new level of awareness of your core and total body. A program is tailored to your personal needs, goals and abilities. Included in your first session is a brief postural analysis, explanation of the basic Pilates principles and teaching of some fundamental movements. From this session, you gain insight into what particular needs your body has and how to address them. *** (Currently only offered at the Trico location please call for more information).

Rehabilitative Class (8 classes): This is a Physiotherapy-based core stability mat class, ideally suited for someone who is new to Pilates and/or is requiring post rehabilitative exercise for their neck, back or pelvis. It is a safe and effective way to help rehabilitate back/neck problems, and provide the appropriate tools to help manage ongoing issues. It is run in a small class setting to ensure suitable progressions, corrections, and feedback for each participant based on their individual injury history. The classes consist of education and progressive core stability exercises, including use of props (foam rollers, balance pads, resist-a-band and exercise balls). Classes run twice weekly over 4 weeks to more effectively enable learning, integration, and progression of exercises and experience the therapeutic benefits of the Pilates method. *** (Offered at both the Trico and Cardel Location please call for more information).

Funding

There are many ways to access funding options when seeking treatment at our centres.

Extended health benefit plans

Physiotherapy treatment is usually covered in health benefit plans. Check your plan for coverage details and if your insurer requires a doctor referral for reimbursement. Depending on your insurance company, you may even have access to direct billing.

Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) coverage

If you are injured at work, WCB will normally approve up to 21 treatment visits over six weeks. WCB pays for the first visit and after reports are submitted they will notify us if you claim has been accepted. Contact our clinics for more information.

Automobile insurance

If you have been injured in a car accident seek treatment within 10 days of your accident. Your insurance company will normally pre-approve up to 21 treatment visits over a 12 week period. You can consult a licensed physiotherapist directly and you do not need a physician referral.

Veteran’s Affairs, Canadian Armed Forces, RCMP

If you are a veteran or currently serving with the Armed Forces or the RCMP, you may have access to funding for therapy services through your government benefits. Contact Panther Sports and your health coordinator for more information.
