Slow Motion Running Analysis

A Slow Motion Running Analysis is designed to help you RUN WELL. This includesnot only running efficiently, but also running in a manner that will give you the bestchance to run injury free. Every year, estimates are that between 50 and 75 percentof runners sustain an injury. There can be many factors that contribute to an injury,or the potential of an injury, and a slow motion running analysis is designed to helpyou investigate the factors that could contribute to an injury and to find ways tominimize those contributing factors.

What is the cause of a running injury?

This is a difficult question to answer, and in fact there can be many contributingfactors that add up to cause an injury that would not have caused an injury ontheir own. Some of these include training frequency or intensity changes, runningsurface, biomechanics, strength or flexibility imbalances, just to name a few. Thetrick is to identify possible contributing factors and make changes to help you runbelow the injury threshold.

What is a Slow Motion Running Analysis?

A Slow Motion Running Analysis combines a biomechanical assessment, strengthand flexibility measures, and a video capture of your running and walking. Videois taken at a high frame rate between 120 and 1000 frames per second. The videocan then be analyzed frame by frame to analyze technique, dynamic biomechanics, strength and flexibility imbalances, as well as running inefficiencies. These findingsare then analyzed by a Physiotherapist with a special interest in running injurieswho combines assessment skills with knowledge of the most recent literature onrunning and running injuries. You are then given advise and tools to help you runinjury free, or to return to safe running after an injury. You will also receive a videowith “voice over” analysis of the most important findings from your assessment.

What should I bring to a Slow Motion Running Analysis?

  • The shoes that you usually run with. If your shoes are new, bring an old pairof running shoes that can be analyzed for wear patterns.
  • Shorts. Ideally, form fitting or shorter shorts are preferred.
  • A tank top or T-shirt. Again, something that is somewhat form-fitting is best.
  • Any questions that you would like to discuss.
