Post Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Rehabilitation

If you or a family member has been involved in a motor vehicle accident (MVA), regardless of its severity, it’s a good idea to be assessed by a physiotherapist as soon as possible- in fact, the sooner the better.

The physical stresses imparted on the body by the impact of a MVA can result in any number of injuries. Most often however, the spine bears the brunt of most of these accidents.

Whiplash is characterised by a collection of symptoms that occur following a rapid acceleration-deceleration of the head on the neck. (Which can also occur just as easily riding a horse, bike or roller coaster, or participating in sports like hockey, football or soccer.) Injury to the joints, discs, ligaments, muscles and nerve roots contribute to the symptom picture.

In addition to whiplash injuries involving the neck, the rest of the spine can just as easily be affected by MVA’s. Panther therapists are well trained in assessing and treating spinal injuries of all kinds, with the goal being the return to normal activities of daily living as soon as possible.

There are many ways to access funding options when seeking treatment at our centres.

Extended health benefit plans

Physiotherapy treatment is usually covered in health benefit plans. Check your plan for coverage details and if your insurer requires a doctor referral for reimbursement. Depending on your insurance company, you may even have access to direct billing.

Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) coverage

If you are injured at work, WCB will normally approve up to 21 treatment visits over six weeks. WCB pays for the first visit and after reports are submitted they will notify us if you claim has been accepted. Contact our clinics for more information.

Automobile insurance

If you have been injured in a car accident seek treatment within 10 days of your accident. Your insurance company will normally pre-approve up to 21 treatment visits over a 12 week period. You can consult a licensed physiotherapist directly and you do not need a physician referral.

Veteran’s Affairs, Canadian Armed Forces, RCMP

If you are a veteran or currently serving with the Armed Forces or the RCMP, you may have access to funding for therapy services through your government benefits. Contact Panther Sports and your health coordinator for more information.
